Trying to Find a Silver Lining

God can use suffering for good.

It's been three days since Political Violence in America took the life of Charlie Kirk. I've felt a depression of the kind I haven't had since the September 11, 2001 attacks. I never knew or watched Charlie Kirk's content save for the odd short-form video. I assumed he was a "gotcha" voice on the American conservative scene, but as the world reacts to his assassination, I've come to live the old "You know what they say about assuming..." adage.

For instance, I did not know Charlie was married with two young children until the photos surfaced in my social media feed. His wife released a statement to the world that brought tears to the eyes of many, myself included. Especially where she explains to her daughter how her daddy is away.

I was choking on tears watching this brave, pious woman hold back her emotions to proclaim the goodness of God and glorify Him. Moments later, she's describing how her three-year-old daughter is wondering where Daddy is.

I lost it.

Outpouring of Love

The past three days have shown the enormity of Charlie Kirk's influence:

Heroes are Praised

As a father, it is devastating to me to think about what Mark Robinson went through. I continue to pray for him, and his son, in addition to the Kirk family.

Others Are Waking Up

Turning to God

The silver lining in this tragedy is God. The silver lining in any tragedy is always God. I think the assassination of Charlie Kirk is a poignant example of how God can use suffering for good.

Our hearts ache for Charlie's wife and children, but we will not lose hope.

Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.” (Deut 31:6)
